Home repairs, quoted from a video
Film the job. Get three quotes.
Point your phone at the leak, the crack or the wall you want gone, say what you need, and up to three licensed NYC contractors quote it. No site visit first, no five phone calls.
Free for homeowners. Starting with plumbing and small repairs in New York City.
How it works
Ninety seconds on your phone instead of a week of callbacks
We walk you through what to film. Contractors see the real job, so the quotes mean something.
Film it, guided
Three on-screen cues: show the problem up close, step back to show the space, then say what you want done and by when.
We match up to three pros
Licensed, insured contractors who work your area and your kind of job. Never more than three, never a shared lead list.
Quotes come to your inbox
Each pro quotes from your video within a day. Pick one, or none. Nobody gets your number unless you reply.
What a good video looks like
- Daylight or the lights on. Wipe the lens.
- Get within arm’s length of the problem, then step back.
- Show how a pro would reach it: the hallway, the stairs, the cabinet under the sink.
- Say it out loud: what, when, and anything you already know.
- Under 90 seconds. That is all a pro needs to quote.
Why video, not a form
Contractors lose hours every week driving to look at jobs that turn out tiny, impossible, or not their trade. A form cannot show a corroded shut-off valve. A video can. Pros quote faster and more honestly when they can see the work, and you skip the awkward first visit.
For contractors
Quote from the truck, not from the driveway
Every post comes with a narrated video and a written summary. You see the job before you commit a minute to it, and at most two other pros see the same post.
Questions people ask
Is it really free for homeowners?
Yes, and it stays free. Contractors pay for the tool, not you. You can post, get quotes and hire whoever you like without paying ShowTheProject anything.
Who sees my video?
Only the contractors we match to your post (at most three) and the people reviewing posts. It is never public, never searchable, and you can ask us to delete it any time. See the privacy page.
Is the quote final?
A video quote is a real quote for what the pro can see. If the job turns out different once they are on site (a hidden pipe, a second leak), they will tell you before doing extra work. That is in our terms for contractors.
What kinds of jobs?
We are starting with plumbing, drains and handyman work in New York City, because those are the jobs a pro can quote from a video. Demolition and bigger renovation work come next; you can post them now and we will tell you honestly if we cannot match it yet.
Do I have to be on camera?
No. Film the problem and talk over it. Your face never needs to be in the video.
