How it works
A video shows a contractor what a form never can. Here is exactly what happens between pressing record and getting a quote.
For homeowners
- Record, guided. The page opens your camera and shows three cues over 90 seconds: the problem up close, the space around it, and what you want done. You can re-record as often as you like. Nothing uploads until you press Send.
- A person reads it. We watch the video, listen to the audio, and write a short summary a pro can scan in ten seconds. Audio is transcribed by software to help with that; the transcript stays with your post.
- We pick up to 3 contractors. Matched by trade, borough and availability. Each one is license-checked against the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection register (or the relevant trade license) and insured.
- Quotes arrive by email within 24 hours. Each quote says what is included and what might change on site. You reply to the one you like. Your phone number goes only to that pro, and only then.
- You hire directly. You and the contractor agree the work and pay them as you normally would. ShowTheProject takes no cut from the homeowner and no commission from the job.
For contractors
- You get the post by email: the video, the transcript, our summary, the ZIP code and when the homeowner wants it done.
- You quote in 24 hours or pass. A pass is fine. Silence is not.
- You know who else saw it. Never more than 2 others. Nobody is selling the same post to a list.
- Your own video link. Founding members get a link for their own site and Google profile. Customers who find you directly send you a video the same way. Those posts are yours alone.
What we do not do
- We do not take payments or hold money. In this first phase, you pay the contractor directly.
- We do not publish your video anywhere or use it for advertising.
- We do not sell your details. Contractors see your first name, ZIP code and the video; they get your email to send the quote, and your phone number only if you reply.
